DearFile allows users to designate trusted individuals who may receive access to selected information under circumstances defined by the account owner. This page explains how trusted access works and what DearFile does and does not do.
What trusted contacts can do
Depending on configuration, trusted contacts may:
- Receive notifications
- Receive shared information
- Access selected materials
- Help locate important information
Access depends on permissions configured by the account owner.
User responsibility
Users are solely responsible for:
- Selecting trusted contacts
- Keeping contact information current
- Reviewing access permissions
- Understanding risks associated with access sharing
What DearFile verifies
DearFile may verify:
- Email ownership
- Account authentication
- System-level access permissions
What DearFile does not verify
DearFile does not independently verify:
- Death
- Incapacity
- Family relationships
- Inheritance rights
- Entitlement
- Legal authority
- Suitability of designated individuals
Disputes
DearFile is not responsible for disputes involving spouses, beneficiaries, heirs, relatives, representatives, guardians, or other third parties. Users should carefully consider whom they designate.
Changing or removing trusted contacts
Users may modify, replace, or remove trusted contacts at any time through account settings.
