About DearFile
DearFile started with a health scare and one thought that wouldn't go away: if something happens to me tonight, does my family know where to start?
Not the will. Not the lawyers. Just the basics: the bank accounts, the insurance policy, the people to call. The simple stuff that nobody ever writes down, and that families spend weeks trying to piece together after a loss.
A lawyer felt like too much. Too formal. Too expensive. Too far from what was actually needed. What was needed was a file. A letter, really: everything in one place, clearly written, ready if the family ever needed it.
That file didn't exist. So we built it.
What we believe
We believe this kind of preparation is an act of love, not a confrontation with mortality. The families that have to piece things together after a loss don't need more paperwork. They need answers. We're building the thing that gives them those answers.
We believe your private information should be private. Your file is securely protected and accessible only to you and the trusted contacts you choose.
We believe this should be simple. Not a legal product. Not a financial product. A personal one, built for the ordinary person who loves people who depend on them.
The product
DearFile is a file: your people, your accounts, your wishes, and a personal note to the people you love. You can invite trusted contacts who can request access to your file when the time comes.
It's not a will. It's not a legal document. It's the thing your family actually needs first, before the lawyers, before the court, on the night everything changes.
